Midrand Boreholes

irrigationMidrand Boreholes was started in 1983 and registered as cc in 2004. We specialise in the drilling and casing of water production boreholes, we also drill exploration, monitoring and investigation holes, during which we keep logs and samples. Over the years we have established lasting relationships with various water contractors, from  water-diviners, hydro-geologists, yield testing companies, pump suppliers and installers and qualified electricians, with whom we work closely and which ensures quality workmanship and service. We also work closely with contractors that do borehole recovery, borehole rehabilitation, borehole maintenance, and is confident that we could solve almost any problem pertaining to boreholes or put you in touch with someone who can. Midrand Boreholes cc strongly believes that by using our recommended contactors your best interests are served, as they are highly specialised in their own fields of expertise. Our drillers and drill assistants on the drilling rigs are experienced and informative and are passionate about their work.  Samples of the formation being drilled in are laid out in six piles per row, each pile represents one meter drilled, and each row represents a drill rod (6m length).  Should there be a water-strike, our drillers can only give an estimation of how fruitful a strike is.

Jonathan is our head driller on the Big Drill Rig, soon to be backed up by Kevin who is currently being trained as a driller and will shortly run his own team on another Drill Rig.  Our Big Drill Rig is a Thor Drill Rig with a 25 Bar Atlas Copco compressor.  The compressor can stand up-to 25 meters away from the borehole site.

Drilling_rigBrad leads his team on our Small Drill Rig, which has been designed to fit through a standard garage door, the 20 Bar Altas Copco compressor can stand up-to 20 meters away from the borehole site. The Small Drill Rig comes off the back of a truck and is self propelled enabling it to get into tight spaces.

Attention to Detail

borehole_development

Once the drilling and casing of a water production borehole is completed, our experts will develop the borehole.  Development, or flushing of the water production borehole is of paramount importance as this gets rid of most of the solids that come into the borehole during the drilling process.    If left this debris could cause serious damage to the pump. Yield testing is a further important step which determines the yield of the borehole and boreholes’ recovery time.  It is important not to deplete or exhaust a water production borehole, which makes it essential that the pump matches the yield of the borehole as indicated by the test results. We are equipped for and experienced in Mud-drilling.
